TowerCoverage.com – Technical Architecture and RF Mapping Platform Overview
TowerCoverage.com is a web-based RF propagation mapping platform built for ISPs, WISPs, and broadband providers that need accurate wireless coverage modeling, path analysis, Multi-Map planning, and service-area validation before a truck ever rolls.
TowerCoverage.com is one of the first fully web-based RF propagation mapping systems designed to support 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, 3.6 GHz, and many additional licensed and unlicensed frequency bands. Since launching in 2011, the platform has been engineered and refined to deliver accurate, high-resolution coverage maps for service providers around the world.
Gone are the days of deploying access points and performing ad-hoc site surveys just to determine whether a potential customer can receive service. TowerCoverage.com enables providers to model, predict, and validate coverage with confidence before dispatching a technician.
With the Multi-Map system, multiple individual access points can be merged into comprehensive service-area-wide maps for internal planning or published directly to a provider’s website using embedded iframe tools. The platform also supports fiber and coax mapping, giving modern ISPs a complete planning toolkit.
Through the integrated lead-generation system, customer inquiries submitted through public maps automatically generate the six best path profiles to nearby towers within minutes. Providers can review the data, forward leads into billing or CRM systems, plan new tower locations, locate existing FCC towers, and make better serviceability decisions.

High-Performance Storage Architecture
To deliver reliability and performance, TowerCoverage.com uses MikroTik Rose Data Storage RDS2216-2XG-4S+4XS-2XQ units in an active/active storage configuration for user-generated content, including logos, coverage layers, and Multi-Maps.
Storage design includes:
- 10 × 2 TB NVMe drives via U.2 adapters running RAID6, providing approximately 15 TB usable high-speed storage
- 8 × 4 TB NVMe drives via U.2 adapters running RAID5, providing approximately 22 TB usable high-speed storage
- Local disk storage combined with iSCSI
- RAID-1 mirroring across iSCSI hosts
- Active/active design for redundancy, performance, and data integrity
Network Fabric
Both RDS units are connected using 40 Gbps links to a pair of CRS326-24S+ switches. Each RDS connects to both switches using Multi-Chassis LAG (MLAG), providing 80 Gbps aggregated bandwidth per RDS, switch-level redundancy, and seamless failover.
Routing & Network Redundancy
TowerCoverage.com operates dual MikroTik CCR2116 routers as a redundant routing core.
- Active/active BGP sessions across multiple transit and peering connections
- Dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 with VRRP failover on public and private interfaces
- A/B power systems backed by generators
- Dual HVAC systems alternating for reliability and system health
- Environmental monitoring for temperature, humidity, and air quality
This design provides 24/7 continuity during maintenance windows, routing events, power issues, and hardware failure scenarios.
Backup, Replication & Disaster Recovery
TowerCoverage.com uses a multi-layer backup and replication strategy designed for fast local recovery, off-site retention, and full data-center-level failover.
Local Backup Tier
- High-speed local backup storage
- Multi-gigabit restoration performance
- Rapid rollback and recovery capability
Cloud Backup Tier
- Encrypted off-site cloud storage
- Long-term retention of critical platform data
Redundant Data Center Replication
- Full VM and server snapshots replicated to a secondary data center
- Replication intervals of every 5–15 minutes
- Independent internet uplinks, BGP routing, and core switching at the backup site
- Complete failover capability for disaster recovery
Monitoring & Telemetry
All systems are continuously monitored using MikroTik The Dude and Zabbix.
Monitoring includes:
- BGP peers
- OSPF sessions
- Switch fabrics
- Storage performance
- Environmental systems
- UPS and battery performance
- Replication health
- Latency monitoring
- Server health
Multi-layer monitoring allows problems to be detected long before they become customer-impacting service events.
